Sacred Summit of Sri Lanka
Adam’s Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is a 2,243-meter (7,359 ft) conical mountain in central Sri Lanka, revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and Muslims alike. At its summit lies a sacred footprint-shaped rock formation — believed to be the Buddha’s footprint by Buddhists, Shiva’s by Hindus, Adam’s by Muslims, and St. Thomas’s by Christians. Climbing Adam’s Peak is a deeply spiritual experience, especially during the pilgrimage season, when thousands of pilgrims ascend its 5,500+ steps before dawn to witness the iconic sunrise and shadow of the peak.
